What Are the Real Reasons You Want To Move Right Now?

The reason you might want to sell your house now is most likely that something in your life has changed. Even though mortgage rates are a big part of your choice, you don't want them to take away from the reason you wanted to move in the first place.

It is true that rates are higher now, which makes homes less affordable. Because of this, some people are choosing to wait to sell their homes because they don't want to have to move and get a higher mortgage rate on their new home.

But how you live and how your needs change are also important. As a new Realtor.com article puts it:

“No matter what interest rates and home prices do next, sometimes homeowners just have to move—due to a new job, new baby, divorce, death, or some other major life change.”

These are some of the main reasons people decide to sell today. Any one of these might hit home for you and be enough to make you want to move right now.

Relocating
If you want to move to a new area, it could be because you want to change jobs, be closer to family and friends, find a more ideal location, or just have a change in your scenery.

For example, you might be thinking about selling your house and moving to get that dream job.

Upgrading the Home
A lot of people decide to sell their homes and move into larger ones. This usually happens when there's a need for more space to host parties, a home office or gym, or extra bedrooms for a growing family, visiting family members, and/or friends.

For instance, if you live in an apartment or condo and your family is growing, it might be time to move to a place that better fits your needs.

Downsizing
People may also decide to sell their homes when someone has recently moved out and there is too much space. Some people may also need to downsize due to a divorce, losing a loved one, recently retiring, needing  or wanting to live at a medical facility or retirement community, or simply just because they are ready for a change.

As an example, let's say you just retired and want to move somewhere warmer with less housework. It's possible that a different home would fit your new way of life better.

Status Change in a Relationship
People also often sell their homes when they get divorced, separate, or get married.

For instance, if you and your partner just split up, it might be hard to still live together. It might be better to sell your house and get your own.

Worries about health
People who have health problems or trouble moving around and need to make changes to their living situation might decide to sell their home and buy one that is better for them.

For instance, you might want to sell your house and use the money to help pay for a room in an assisted-living center.

Right now, it's hard to afford things because mortgage rates are going up and prices are going up, but your wants and way of life are also important. As a new Bankrate story puts it:

“Deciding whether it’s the right time to sell your home is a very personal choice. There are numerous important questions to consider, both financial and lifestyle-based, before putting your home on the market. . . . Your future plans and goals should be a significant part of the equation . . .”
