Buyer Bright Spot: There Are More Fox Cities Homes on the Market
Buying a home has been hard for a few years now, especially since home prices and mortgage rates have gone up. If you want to buy a house, you might be afraid you won't be able to find something that fits your budget.
But keep reading. Recently, there have been a lot more homes for sale. This is true for both existing (previously lived in) houses and brand-new homes. Take a look at these two good things for buyers right now and learn why they might help you find the house you've been looking for.
1. There Are 22% More Homes Already on the Market For Sale
According to Realtor.com, the number of homes that were already on the market went up by an amazing 22% in 2024 (McLaughlin, 2025). Experts say that this year will bring even more great choices for you. Based on the graph below, it looks like the number of homes for sale will grow by another 11–15% by the end of the year (Simonsen & Simonsen, 2024):
Don't worry if you haven't found a house that meets all of your needs yet. As more homes go on the market, you'll have more choices. This increases your chances at finding a house that meets all of your needs. As Senior Economist at Realtor.com, Ralph McLaughlin, puts it:
“It could be a particularly good time to get out into the market . . . you're going to have more choice. And that's not something that buyers have really had much over the past several years” (TheStreet & Mezistrano, 2025).
2. There Are More Brand New Homes For Sale
Data from the Census and the National Association of Realtors (NAR) show that 31.1% of homes on the market right now are newly built (New And Existing Home Sales, U.S., 2025). That's about one in three. That's more than usual (see charts below). That's not because builders are doing too much, though. They're just trying to catch up after years of not building enough homes to meet demand.
And the best part is that builders have been working on making smaller homes with lower prices, so you might find that brand-new homes are cheaper than you thought. A lot of people don't bother with new construction because they think it will cost a lot more. But these days, the price difference isn't as big as you might imagine. This is what CNET says:
“If you live in an area where there's a lot of new construction happening . . . you might be able to purchase a new house for a price similar to or even less than a pre-owned one” (Watt, 2025).
You should ask your real estate agent about finding you off-market properties or new builds if you haven't been able to find a home in your price range. You may have been limiting your choices by about a third or more if you don't.
In Conclusion
